THE NOVEL BOOK

The book, typically understood as something created in multiples, will be explored as a singular form. The one-of-a-kind book, the book as sculptural object, and the bookness of things in our world, will be the subject of this studio course. Each individual book will develop along thematic tangents to examine the book as a symbolic object, a container of human expression, and a sequential form that extends from experience and practice. In one way or another each of us has a familiarity with the remarkable possibilities of the book. Students with an energetic spirit and a willingness to create a great deal of unique work are well suited for this course.

A course reader, a field trip to Los Angeles, and visits to the Special Collections Library and the Arts Library will be included.

Instructor(s): Linda Ekstrom
Time(s): Wednesdays, 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Place(s): Bldg. 494, Room 107
