This is a continuation of this course from the W06 quarter. Students need not have taken Part I to enroll in Part II. Today, in the world of short sound bites, computer and visual media, and technological input form cell phones, text messaging and the media in general, the emphasis on the "human touch", so central to shared communication and the exchange of ideas, is an "endangered species". This course is intended to provide students with the opportunity to learn what it is to actively turn toward others and to think and feel with them in a mutual process of sustained high quality attention, a principle characteristic of "Reflective Inquiry." Students will be trained in this method of communication. Course projects are required: a term paper or another relevant creative project approved by the professor. There will be readings form dr. Shapiro's recent book (2005) Case Studies in Reflective Inquire: conversations to Explore Significant issues in life and Work. This course is in the form of a seminar, for mature students. Dr. Stewart Shapiro (dr. Stew) is a Clinical and organizational Psychologist, who taught in UCSB's graduate School of Education for many years. First class meeting will be Friday, April 14. Instructor(s): Stew Shapiro Time(s): Fridays, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm Place(s): Bldg. 494, Room 143 << Back |
