STUDENT COLLOQUIUM This course is designed to be a hands-on exploration of the work of Raymond Carver. Carver is a controversial figure, and one with ties, albeit strained ones, to UCSB. For those reasons as well as his immense and important talent, Carver is a valuable figure to study for anyone interested in the art of the short story. Through the crafting of stories and the study of Carver's technique, students will learn about a modern literary master as well as their own abilities Students will read two of Carver's story collections and one of his poetry collections, and they will write one 8-10 page story, revising it multiple times throughout the quarter. Student Colloquia are limited to a maximum of Two (2.0) units Pass. Units for this class are lower-division UCSB units. For CCS Literature Majors: Student Colloquia may not be applied to Core Course Requirements.
