We'll discuss poetry in handouts and in our anthology while presenting original poems in both completed and draft form to a sympathetic, kindly group of peers. Emphasis is on giving and receiving reaction to work written in an atmosphere charged by the study of poems in a vast range of styles. Students will present a 3 to 15 minute poetry reading in class, write at least ten poems during the term, offer three of these for workshop attention, and hand in a chapbook of ten to fifteen poems as a final project. Samplings from the chapbook-in-progress serve as our reading material toward the end of the term. Enrollment limited to 15 students. Required Texts: Pinksky, Robert Invitation to Poetry W.W.
