STUDENT COLLOQUIUM The objective of this class is to help students gain a better understanding of reptiles and amphibians in their natural environments. We will explore a variety of habitats and get first hand experience with the animals. We will also learn how to use a field guide, how to find an individual and safely observe it's behavior. Every week we will take the class into the field for approximately three hours then return to the classroom for a one hour discussion on the outing, behavior, habitat, diet, and other species-specific topics. Students will be graded on participation and completion of a final project. For the final project, students will pick a species that we have viewed or discussed, and do a presentation on that species for the class. The class will be held one day a week from one till five o'clock, the time of day when most reptiles will be out sunning themselves. Guest instructors will accompany some of the field trips. ONLY 10 STUDENTS WILL BE ADMITTED TO THIS CLASS Student Colloquia are limited to a maximum of Two (2.0) units Pass. Units for this class are lower-division UCSB units. Optional Texts: Stebbins, R.C.
