This course is required for all new CCS Art Majors who are entering UCSB as freshmen or transferring from another college or university in the fall quarter. Congratulations, you are now a College of Creative Studies student and a member of a select academic community! At the same time you are also an integral part of the larger UCSB community. As a new student, you will soon learn that CCS offers to you the best of both worlds. CCS students are selected because they are talented, highly motivated and self-disciplined. Therefore, you will want to learn about all that CCS/UCSB has to offer toward your development as a scholar and an artist. The Art Colloquium is designed to assist you in making the most of your experience as a CCS art student. You will be encouraged to take advantage of the broad range of course offerings; the various support facilities, and the faculty expertise available within CCS and the larger UCSB campus. The goals of this course are:
We will meet weekly as a group on Thursday afternoons. You will also attend the Art Symposium (CS 106) on Tuesday evenings as part of the Colloquium (see below). A few additional meeting times and locations will be listed in your class syllabus, presented at the first class meeting. These varied times will be necessary to accommodate visits to the larger campus offerings and to learn about library research methods. Bring to the first class meeting a recent work of art to introduce yourself to the group. Note: Students must also concurrently enroll in Art CS 106, Section 1, CCS Art Symposium, EC # 01172, for the fall quarter for one 1.0 unit of credit.
