LITERATURE CS 110, Section 1 EC # 27797
CHAUCER'S TROILUS AND CRISEYDE

We will read Geoffrey Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde in Middle English. Students will learn how to read Middle English aloud, as poetry was meant to be read in the Middle Ages (and for many people still is). Due to the slowness of learning to read Middle English aloud, only 10 students will be enrolled in the course. Troilus and Criseyde is the first novel in English. Astonishingly, it is also written in rhymed meter with dialogue that reads as naturally as any modern prose.

ENROLLMENT LIMITED TO 10 STUDENTS

Required Texts:

Chaucer, Geoffrey Troilus and Criseyde W.W. Norton
Mayhew, A.L. A Concise Dictionary of Middle English BiblioBazaar

Instructor(s): Caroline Allen
Time(s): Monday and Wednesday, 2:00-3:30 pm
Place(s): Old Little Theatre, Rm. 160B
