| BIOLOGY CS 101, Section 2 | EC # 03251 | ENDURANCE PHYSIOLOGY |
This is a new class designed for students with an interest in exercise physiology, particularly endurance events such as distance running, cycling or swimming. It is not restricted to Biology majors and students in other majors are encouraged to enroll. If you have an interest in the topic and are prepared to read and discuss scientific papers you have the necessary prerequisites for this class. This is not a class that is explicitly about training, although if you are training it will help you understand the science behind what you do. In the class we will read and discuss, in a seminar format, papers in exercise physiology to see how experiments are carried out, how data are interpreted and, subsequently, at how those results are reported and used by the wider community. Students will read and present papers at weekly meetings. At the first meeting we will jointly decide on some of the topics to be investigated. As well as class attendance and participation, all students will produce a written review of a topic of your choosing in the style of a review paper. If you have any questions about this class please contact me any time: latto@lifesci.ucsb.edu This is a 2.0 unit course.
