All CCS faculty members maintain regular office hours. There a list of faculty office hours in the front office made available to you each quarter. Use these hours or make an appointment to discuss your classes, progress, or to seek additional advising. Office hours change each quarter.

At the end of each quarter, students are asked to evaluate each instructor with whom they took a class. CCS faculty will distribute the evaluation forms to you during one of your last class periods, or you can pick one up from Terri (terri.bisson@ccs.ucsb.edu) in Room 104. (You also evaluate teachers of your L&S classes - see their departmental offices if you have questions.) The CCS forms are unstructured, allowing you to say whatever you want; constructive criticism is encouraged. The forms are anonymous - no need to sign your name. Instructors will request a student in each course to return the class?s completed evaluations to Terri in the CCS office. All evaluations for a particular class will be typed and given to the teacher (the instructor does not see your handwritten sheets). A copy of these consolidated evaluations also becomes part of the faculty member?s personnel file.
These evaluations are reviewed by departments and a committee in the University?s Academic Personnel Office, and play a substantial role in the reappointment of lecturers. So, the evaluations are very important, and attention is paid to them. However, do not let this affect your candor and informality. Simple comments such as ?great class? should be explained if the evaluation is to serve its purpose. |
