An important aspect of the Creative Studies program is the consistent,
one-on-one faculty advising and mentorship that each student receives.
In addition to being one of the benefits of CCS students, quarterly advising
is also a College requirement. All students enrolled in the College are
required to meet with their assigned faculty advisor each quarter to discuss
their academic programs and to get approval of their proposed courses
of study for the following quarter. It is your responsibility to contact
your advisor each quarter. If you have any questions about this process,
please see Leslie
.
CCS Advising Checklist
All students should have a yellow form called the CCS Advising Checklist
in their permanent file in room 104. This form is sent to all CCS students
with their CCS admissions packets. Additional forms are available from
Leslie. You and your advisor may use this checklist as an overall planning
guide that will outline recommended and required courses for your degree
goal.
Incoming students must use this form during their first advising session
to initiate their CCS coursework. Continuing students may take this form
to advising appointments as necessary for update/revision. The original
of this form must always be returned to your permanent student file in
room 102A. You may wish to make a photocopy for reference.
Quarterly Advising Requirements and Procedures
Students are responsible for making an appointment with their advisors
before the registration deadline for the following quarter (during the
fifth or sixth week of the current quarter), to review their planned course
of study for the next quarter.
A quarterly Advising Checkslip (yellow half-sheet) will be distributed
to each CCS student in their CCS mailbox, every quarter, immediately
prior to registration for the following quarter. Students must complete
this form with their planned study loads for the next quarter, obtain
their advisors signature on the form, and return it to Terri in
the CCS office and be checked-off for advising for the quarter.
Registration Blocks Students who are not cleared for advising each quarter will ultimately
have their registration blocked by the College. As stated above,
the advising check-slip will be distributed immediately prior to registration
for the following quarter (approximately the fifth week of the current
quarter). If, after two weeks, a student has not returned the signed
check-slip to the College office, a second notice will be issued to the
student via their student mailbox. Students who still fail to contact
and meet with their advisors and turn in the signed check-slip to be
checked-off for advising, will be issued a third and final notice. If
by the end of the first week of Spring Quarter, any student has not yet
been cleared for advising for the prior Fall and Winter, that students
registration will be blocked for the following Fall. This registration
block will only be removed upon submission of any past-due advising checkslips.
Registration for Fall Quarter occurs during the prior Spring Quarter.
If you do not meet with your advisor and have your advising check-slip
signed during that time, you must do so during the first two weeks
of Fall Quarter.
