All entering students are required to take an intensive three quarter sequence of CCS math courses (see below). The rest of the courses will be individually chosen by each student under the supervision of a faculty advisor from the courses offered at The College of Letters and Science.

COURSES IN CCS MATH

These are required courses for all entering CCS mathematics majors:

  • Fall quarter
    1. Introduction to Higher Mathematics.
    2. Algebra and Geometry.
  • Winter quarter
    1. Probability and Combinatorics.
    2. Linear Algebra.
  • Spring quarter
    1. Real Analysis.
    2. Abstract Algebra.

Students planning to participate in the Putnam competition are encouraged to take the following courses:

  1. Problem-solving seminar I . Fall quarter.
  2. Problem-solving seminar II. Winter quarter.
  3. Problem-solving seminar III. Spring quarter.
