Note: We meet four mornings a week for six weeks--Mondays through Thursdays (9
a.m. to 1p.m., June 23rd to July 31st ), in UCSB’s College of Creative Studies—to study
writing, painting, and photography. If you meet the qualifications and are accepted
into the Institute, tuition will be waived. Decisions will be made by June 19th.
Grades 7-10

2. Complete the application. You fill out your parts. Parents/ guardians fill
out their parts. Due Date: June 16, 2008.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:
You like to learn new things. You’re eager to write, paint, and take
photographs. You have a good attitude. You finish what you start. We are especially
interested in offering this opportunity to students who would be the first
in their families to attend college. Students need not be perfectly fluent
in English. If students meet the qualifications and are accepted into the institute,
tuition will be waived.
CREATIVE WRITING/JOURNALISM
You’ve been telling stories all your life, simply by talking. Here you
try your hand at stories, poems, journalism. Your writing is in a book/exhibit
at the grand finale.
PAINTING
You get hands-on experience drawing and painting: people, landscapes, objects,
ideas. You show your paintings. Some appear in our art gallery and exhibit and
grand celebration.
PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEO
You take and make photographs with digital cameras. Your photos are in
our big group show and grand finale celebration.
JULY 31st: GRAND FINALE and CELEBRATION
