The Thomas J. Iberti Memorial Fellowship

The Thomas J. Iberti Memorial Undergraduate Fellowship is an annual gift in perpetuity to honor the memory of Dr. Thomas Iberti. The Fellowship fully funds an Iberti Fellow, in an amount up to $15,000, for one year of study in the College of Creative Studies. Faculty members nominate Fellowship candidates based on their intellectual merit, curiosity, passion and innate sense of creativity. A list of recipients can be found here.Fellowships, Prizes, and Awards greatly strengthen the College of Creative Studies' efforts to recruit top students who have a multitude of competing academic opportunities at other public and private institutions. Fully-funded Undergraduate Fellowships are considered to be among the most prestigious awards given to students at the University.

Who was Thomas J. Iberti?

Thomas J. Iberti and his son ConlinDr. Thomas J. Iberti (June 21, 1952 - January 17, 1993) was a UCSB alumnus, who served for ten years as Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Chief of the Division of Critical Care at Mount Sinai Medical Center, in New York . He was a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. According to his colleague, Dr. Arthur H. Aufses, Thomas was “a superb teacher and investigator” who “was always dedicated to compassionate patient care of the highest order.
