Bill Bryson, author and scholar in a wide range of subjects, sat down for a conversation with CCS Interim Dean Bruce H. Tiffney in the Old Little Theater on Monday, March 2, 2020. Speaking to students in majors ranging from biology to writing & literature, Bryson recounted his love of searching for one book in the library and the serendipity of discovering another. His books, such as his recent The Body: A Guide for Occupants, developed from his curiosity and fascination with facts stumbled upon, and his own interest in learning about the world. In  both science and writing, Bryson encouraged students to practice, work at it, and work harder than everyone else. He says to be conscious that you need to improve your skills, and know that success takes perseverance. To remind himself that he can be published, Bryson steps into bookstores, sees all the books, and knows that the writers of those books were at one time unknown.
