College of Creative Studies
Current Course Offerings Summer 2008
General Information
These courses constitute the majority of Fall 2008 offerings. However, additional courses may be added later. Check back here and/or the CCS hallway where F08 Courses are also posted, for additions, cancellations, and/or changes. All UCSB undergraduates are welcome in most CCS classes. Please see below for additional information for Letters and Science and Engineering students. All CCS students must consult with their faculty advisors on their course of study each quarter. An Advising Check Slip has been distributed to all CCS students in their College mailboxes for Fall 2008. The deadline for turning in your F08 signed advising checkslip is Monday, May 26. If you do not turn in a completed, signed advising checkslip for F08 by Monday, May 26, your continued registration for spring quarter will be blocked. Independent Studies and Add Deadline Independent Studies courses may be arranged with instructors. I/S Forms must be completed, approved and signed by the instructor and turned in to the CCS Office no later than the end of the second week of classes. Forms are available in the CCS Office, Room 104. Independent Study courses will be scheduled with the UCSB Registrar's Office and you will be issued an Enrollment Code and a Course Approval Code from CCS by email with which to add the class. You must officially add Independent Study courses, just as you would regular classes, to receive credit. ALL UCSB COURSES MUST BE ADDED BY THE END OF THE 3RD WEEK OF INSTRUCTION. For Fall 2008 the deadline is WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15th at the Office of the via GOLD or at the Office of the Registrar no later than 4:00 pm. This is a firm deadline by which you are expected to officially ADD ALL Courses (including CCS and Independent Study courses) in which you expect credit. Creative Studies students may drop courses, however, up until the last day of instruction (the end of the ninth week of the quarter). Registering for Classes
All UCSB students register via the GOLD system. Complete instructions for using the GOLD system are found in the Fall 2008 Schedule of Classes (available at the UCSB Bookstore or on-line). You should register at your designated appointment times (available on GOLD) to obtain best possible priority for your class level. These dates/times will be emailed to new UCSB students by the Registrar's Office. Your 'Pass 3' should be used for schedule adjustment activities (i.e. adding and dropping classes, or changing grading options). Any actions that require a signed petition will be processed by the Registrar's Office. Creative Studies students who will be taking ONLY Creative Studies courses in F08 may register as late as the first day of instruction, Thursday, September 25. If you are also planning on taking courses in the Colleges of Letters and/or Science or Engineering, you should register during your first Pass for those courses. Please check the F08 Schedule of Classes for the last day to register without a $50 late fee if you are taking any courses outside of CCS in Fall quarter. Important Information for L&S and Engineering Students
Most CCS courses are open to Letters and Science and Engineering students, although these students should check with their departmental advisors about enrolling in a CCS course. In all CCS classes, permission of the instructor is required to remain enrolled in the course; consult with the instructor prior to enrolling if possible. Students in the College normally have priority. About Units
CCS courses are "graded" with variable unit credit, 0-6 units. It is advised that you sign up for no more than four units for any CCS class on your study list. (A student can receive over four units in any one course, if, at the conclusion of that course, the instructor believes that additional credit is justified, based on the student's performance in that class.) Studio classes in art are usually limited to a maximum of three units each; other courses may have limits lower than four. Full unit credit for any course is awarded when a student completes all of the stated requirements for that course while maintaining a high level of performance throughout the course. Simply completing the assignments and attending each class doesn't guarantee full credit. |
